Ozone Therapy
Headaches / Brain fog / Sinus problems
Ozone therapy is a medical treatment that uses ozone gas to improve health and treat various health conditions. Ozone, a form of oxygen composed of three oxygen atoms (O₃), is naturally found in the Earth’s atmosphere, where it plays a critical role in protecting life from harmful ultraviolet radiation. In medicine, ozone therapy harnesses this special kind of oxygens therapeutic properties for promoting healing and reducing inflammation. Ozone therapy can stimulate immune function and fight infections.
What is Ozone Therapy?
Ozone therapy involves administering ozone gas into the body in various ways. In my practice it is applied with a stethoscope into the ears, or for treatment of chronic sinus problems into the nose. It stimulates the immune system, enhances oxygen delivery to tissues, reduces inflammation, and possess antimicrobial properties.
Potential Benefits of Ozone Therapy
Proponents of ozone therapy claim that it offers a wide range of health benefits:
- Antimicrobial Properties: Ozone is known to kill bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites, making it useful in treating infections.
- Improved Circulation: Ozone enhances oxygen delivery and utilization, potentially benefiting conditions like poor circulation and chronic fatigue syndrome.
- Immune System Stimulation: The therapy is believed to activate the immune system, which may help combat autoimmune diseases and chronic infections.
- Pain and inflammation reduction regarding conditions such as sinusitis and severe headaches.
My use of Ozone Therapy
I use ozone therapy mainly for the symptomatic treatment of chronic Headache conditions such as Migraines and Sinusitis. I have also found that patients complaining of “Brain Fog” often respond very quickly to this treatment and report a “clearer head” soon after the treatment.
Whilst it would be foolish to say that any treatment works for everyone, I have noticed that patients who respond to Ozone Therapy get a response within 24 hours or so after the first session. As such, we get feedback very quickly, and therefore inexpensively, on whether the approach is right for them.
Most common conditions ozone may symptomatically help with:
- Headaches
- Brain fog
- Tinnitus
- Vertigo
- Meniere’s disease
- Sinusitis
History of Ozone Therapy
Ozone therapy has origins dating back to the late 19th century when ozone gas was first used for medical purposes. In 1896 Nikola Tesla, patented an ozone generator, setting the stage for its therapeutic use. Early applications were primarily focused on disinfecting wounds and treating infections, given ozone’s potent antimicrobial properties. During World War I, ozone was employed to sterilize wounds and surgical instruments. This was especially so in the German army who used it for the treatment of awful conditions like gangrene, where ozone’s ability to both kill infections and stimulate tissue repair made it invaluable.
The mid-20th century saw a shift towards exploring ozone therapy as a broader medical treatment. German physician Dr. Joachim Hänsler and Swiss dentist Dr. Hans Wolff pioneered the development of modern ozone therapy protocols in the 1950s. Their work expanded its applications to include intravenous treatments, laying the foundation for its widespread use in Europe.
In the past 30 years more than 2,500 papers on the medical use of ozone have been published in peer reviewed medical and scientific journals.
